Bee Package Health – Recommended items

These are supplement/treatment options that we recommend for new bee packages to give them a strong start.

• Pollen patties for Brood feeding
• Honey-B-Healthy Essential oils to add to syrup, for gut health. Promotes healthy, vigorous hives
• Hive-Alive a syrup feed supplement combining natural bio-active ingredients which promote intestinal well-being and improved colony strength.
• Fumagilin-B for the prevention of Nosema (essentially this is diarrhea/dysentery). Recommended for Bee packages.
• Mite Treatment – Oxalic Acid and APIVAR can be used effectively in colder weather
  • • Tasmanian Bees are mite free and shouldn’t need a treatment for a few months
    • New Zealand bees need to be treated within a week of receiving them.
  • Options for MITE TREATMENT:
  • 1.  Oxalic Acid – can be used year round – comes in 2 sizes.  140g and 1 kg
  • 2,  APIVAR strips – 4 strip Pack   OR   12 Strip pack use it before the nectar flow and after the nectar flow.  It contaminates honey for human consumption
  • 3.  FORMIC PRO 2 DOSE pack– 10c-29c daytime temps.  **Very important that is applied exactly per the instructions.
  • 4. FORMIC PRO 10 DOSE pack
• Fondant if it is too cold for syrup.  (Syrup should be used when 10C is the minimum day and night temperature), if you don’t have honey stores for the bees and if it is too cold for syrup
